The painting: Should I go or should I stay, depicts a surreal beach setting in which a blue Citroën 2CV surrounded by luggage and a living room arrangement with an armchair, table and lamp stand in the middle of the sand. This alienating combination of homeliness and holiday evokes a feeling of doubt. The title reinforces the theme of inner conflict, as if the scene freezes a moment in time when the choice between staying and leaving is still open.
